ACCOMMODATION

TRANSPORTATION IN SANTIAGO

TAXI

Taking taxis in Santiago is safe and there are them everywhere. They will be easily identified by their black color with a yellow roof and by their orange license plates (add to that the wide range of Uber, Cabify and Beat that I will tell you about later).

They are a good solution if several people travel (on short trips the trip can be cheaper than by metro or buses and a necessity after 11 pm when the metro closes.

Rates:

Taxis in Santiago operate with taximeters, a device that must be visible so that they can verify its correct operation. If there is any irregularity, write down the vehicle license plate and notify a police officer as soon as you can.

The base rate is 300 pesos for the first 200 meters (“lowering of the flag” in Chilean), then between 110 and 140 pesos are added – depending on the taxi – for every 200 meters traveled or 60 seconds elapsed (whichever comes first).

If you want to travel by taxi outside the city, negotiate the rate with the driver beforehand because with a meter it would be too expensive,

SUBWAY

is one of the integrated axes of the Santiago Public Transportation system. It has 5 underground train lines that travel between the different communes of the city. Most Metro stations connect with Transantiago bus stops and others with intermodal transfer stations, that is, with intercity buses.

On a business day, more than two million transactions are carried out at Metro. The method of payment for the subway train is the same as the system in general, the bip! card.

COLLECTIVE TAXIS

Colectivos are a cheaper alternative to taxis. They have predefined routes that appear on the sign on the roof of the vehicle. In general, they wait at the exit of metro stations in Santiago, as well as at central points. Once the minimum number of passengers is loaded, they begin their journey

.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION BUSES

Bus fare: $710

Metropolitan Mobility Network is an urban public transportation system that operates in the metropolitan area of the city of Santiago, capital of Chile.

It integrates bus services with the Santiago Metro and the Nos-Estación Central urban train service.
