“Solution of Video Surveillance and Access Control by Facial Recognition – 360 degrees: Case of implementation at Centenario Stadium, Montevideo, Uruguay”

Abstract:
Leonardo, as Senior Consultant of ITC, led the team of consultants who advised the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) in the process of selecting a security solution based on Video Surveillance and Access Control by Facial Recognition, to be installed in the Centenario Stadium, in the city of Montevideo. Afterwards, he supervised the process implementation and configuration of the solution.

In this presentation Leonardo will introduce this tool to the audience, indicating its main advantages and benefits, as well as the problems detected during the implementation process.

The Solution

Through the company h&o (DDBA) the Uruguayan Football Association acquired a Solution of Video Surveillance and Access Control by Facial Recognition that integrates several technologies of management of video, cameras, connectivity and facial recognition. The designed system allows, in real time and from dozens of simultaneous video streams, to detect hundreds of faces of people and compare them with those stored in a database; for each match that occurs, an alert is sent to proceed as appropriate.

The installed equipment has the most advanced technology available in the market, and is compatible with a wide variety of applications, serving specific sectors (transport, ports and airports, banking, shops, among others) according to their needs.

The system installed in Centenario Stadium also allows the filming at all times of all the tribunes, recording any type of incident that may occur during the events. For this purpose, on top of the Full HD cameras installed at the entrance gates, PTZ Full HD domes and Ultra HD cameras were installed for the surveillance of the stands.

In the coming months, the stadiums Campeón del Siglo (Club Atlético Peñarol) and Gran Parque Central (National Football Club), will have the same security solution installed.

The installation of this system is an important step in the fight for the eradication of violence in football in Uruguay. This experience can be replicated to address other areas or scenarios that require thorough security controls, such as airports or train stations. Facial Detection also offers the possibility of introducing improvements in other verticals of business.
